With a population of approximately 990 people, Kadadahalli village in the Navalgund taluk of Dharward district has agriculture as the main occupation with almost 53% of the population involved in growing groundnuts, paddy and cotton. With the typical hot dry climate relevant to the Hubli-Dharwad region, kadadahalli can become a centre that does not just uplift its agriculture sector but also become a platform where the rich heritage of the surrounding areas can be promoted and made visible.

Analysis of the cultural, traditional and occupation criteria will give us the solution pertaining to the type of occupations and skills that can be introduced in the area apart from the existing occupations. The mapping observations will give us a fair idea as to which demographic criteria of people may associate themselves with what type of occupation/skill and this will allow us to identify areas that are in dire need and those that have established themselves but need a push in the right direction for them to be more revenue seeking. With this solution in hand, our next step should concern the process and methodology where in these skills are made familiar first within the local village community and second promoting it to the world contributing towards skill development, reverse migration and holistic development of the village and community.

WHAT IS OUR SOLUTION ?

WHY A COMMUNITY CENTRE?

  • For a sustainable living?
  • For community wellbeing?
  • For social cohesion?
  • For business opportunities?
  • Encouraging entrepreneurship?

We envision the community centre as an area where locals, community, volunteers can engage and share ideologies and skills with other people. Our aim is to help build a community that is ready for future collaborations using effective and value-based education, sustainable design and efforts. A community where there is a reduction in social isolation and is self-sustainable.

INSPIRING FROM THE TRADITIONAL METHODS AND ADDING THE URBAN TOUCH……

We envision the community centre as an area that has a welcoming aura that makes the locals feel at home and want to come back. The community centre proposed is tied down to the village roots by their traditional construction techniques and material usage and the promise of being built by their own people. The massive structure brings about an identity to the village, its residents and the culture and ideologies it represents.

ENCOURAGING ENTREPRENEURSHIP?
